What is EoC? Ethernet over Coax Introduction
EnConn’s eco-wire Ethernet over Coax transmission technology has brought IP video surveillance great benefit to install in field. What is “Ethernet over Coax”? Just like the name described, it means a technology to convert Ethernet signal from copper cable to coax cable and convert back.
Why people need Ethernet over Coax technology? The first reason is there is already existed coax cable or users in that field are more familiar with coax cable and used to use coax cable. The second reason is simply coax cable has better reliability and lifetime than copper cable.
Coax cable has the advantages of reliability, robust and good humidity resistance. Not like copper cable having weak humidity resistance, the lifetime of coax cable in real field is quite long. That means users don’t need to replace the cable every 3 to 4 years like copper cable. Although whole IP camera industry has not pointed this out, but some people have already known and discussed this.(ref 1) Therefore, for IP camera installation, to use coax cable to replace copper cable can provide a more reliable surveillance system. In addition, there are a lot of existed analogue coax cables used by analogue camera. To utilize existed coax cable or same coax media can help installer to accept to install IP camera.
EnConn’s Ethernet over Coax technology has quite unique feature such as EOC-AN/IN and eco-net2000 using passive device in IP camera side or eco-wire100T/R using only one power supply to power transmitter and to remotely power receiver in IP camera side. By using these EnConn’s Ethernet over Coax products, installers don’t need to find an extra power source in IP Camera side and can save cost to install powering gear. EOC-IN and eco-net2000 also have a very small form factor to allow putting into camera housing. To make sure the coax cable condition, eco-net2000 has cable detection function to tell users if coax cable is shorten or broken. In addition, to reach longer distance, EnConn’s Ethernet over Coax series also provide IPC-2000 and IPC-1110 to transmit video signal over
