“300+100m” Long reach PoE (Power over Ethernet) transmission technology

In 2003, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) ratifies the first PoE (Power over Ethernet) standard as 802.3af, which can provide capability of 15.4W power to remote PD (power device). In 2009, IEEE further ratifies another high power version as 802.3at to support 25.5W. Since then, PoE applications become popular and promising. Both standards can be applied on current 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet devices. However, Ethernet transmission has 100m limitation by using copper cable. If users need to transmit PoE exceeding 100m, they can only utilize PoE repeater (or called PoE extender) to reach. From the point of view of system reliability and layout, every 100m to cascade a PoE repeater is not a good solution to extend the distance. Due to this demand, Enconn has developed a new technology based on coaxial cable to extend the distance for PoE. This is the first “true” PoE extender (not repeater) in the world.

By using the good characteristic of coax cable including low loss of transmission and low DC resistance for feeding PoE power, Enconn’s PoE series products including eco-power100, eco-power130 and PoC-TX/2RX can provide PoE up to 300m coaxial cable. In addition, 100m copper Ethernet cable can be connected after Enconn’s PoE receiver. This means the total PoE transmission distance can reach up to 400m (300m coaxial cable plus 100m copper cable). Therefore, 3+1 times of PoE range can be extended by this Enconn’s breakthrough PoE technology. Enconn cleverly combines PoE power and Ethernet signal go through one single coaxial cable. From the plot of PD (power device) power v.s. cable resistance providing by Enconn, users can choose proper coaxial cable type to calculate the feeding power to PD device with the consideration of the affect of copper cable. eco-power100 is mainly for 802.3af and eco-power130 can support 802.3at and even >30W at PD device side. PoC-TX is powered by a 48V power supply and PoC-2RX has two output PoE ports. Many PoE applications like PoE network camera, access and security control, IP telephone, wireless LAN access point, RF ID reader, computing and where Ethernet device has been applied, can get the great benefits from Enconn’s long reach PoE technology.
